For the tasks... big or small...

"Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or discouraged by the size of the task, for the Lord your God, my God, is with you. He will never fail you or forsake you."
- 1 Chronicles 28:20

David wanted to build God's temple, but it was Solomon who was assigned the task. After a discussion with the Lord, it was made known to David that Solomon was the right man for the job. Sure, David was a man after God's own heart, but God wanted to use Solomon to build His temple. And regardless of how David felt about it, that's how it was going to play out. But David knew and feared God enough to know that it is never a good idea to try and interfere with God's plans. He respected the Lord's commands, and David supported and prepped His son for this enormous task.

Solomon didn't sign up to be the temple builder. In fact, I'm not really sure how Solomon felt about being handed this task. He might have hoped that his father would have just gone ahead and started construction. He might have hoped that God would call him to a different project since building wasn't his forte. Or, he might have been pumped about the opportunity. This might have been something he had been praying and hoping for his whole life. The time had finally arrived, and even though Solomon was the wisest man to exist, his father gave him a great piece of advice that I am sure stuck with him on the hard days.

Sometimes we want to give up. Sometimes we don't even want to start the task that God has called us to. Sometimes we are really thankful for the opportunity only to find ourselves grumbling about it shortly after. It's easy to get discouraged. It's easy to feel afraid when you've been given a task that is going to take a lot of your time, your effort, and won't be a cake walk. Sometimes you might feel like you're in over your head. Maybe you wonder why the Lord called you to this very thing after all. Why did He afford you this opportunity? Maybe you were confused when you accepted, or maybe you accepted someone else's call. But the truth is, the task is yours, and you can do it.

Don't be intimidated by God's calling on your life. If God has called you to it, He will equip you for it. God doesn't set us up for failure. If He has afforded you the opportunity, He'll be faithful to bring it to completion. It doesn't mean it'll be easy. It doesn't mean that you're going to have smooth sailing the whole way. But it does mean that you're doing a great thing. Don't give up. Don't believe the lies. God is with you.
