Reason #969
We got to sleep in this morning, and it was nice. It was just what we needed, too. I have definitely come to realize the beauty of sleeping late, and I have learned to savor these days. I don't know how many more late sleeping days we have in our future, but I'm not wishing them away. I appreciate any time I can get excessive amounts of sleep, especially when it's cool and rainy outside.
We've been getting so much rain. Our rain gauge is completely full, which is the first time that has ever happened. If things keep going the way they are, we'll have to get a bigger gauge. Of course, that's not a bad problem out here. I don't think we'll ever get too much rain. But the sun did decide to make an appearance this afternoon, and it was nice. I've enjoyed the clouds, as we are used to only having sun, but I was glad to see the sun this afternoon. It was good to feel the warmth it provides, and after a few days of clouds, it made for a nice change of scenery. In a perfect world, we'd have the right combination of cloudy days and sunny days. As it is, we'll take what we can get.
One of our friends taught bible study a few weeks ago and she used the sun as an analogy to explain the difference between God and Jesus. The truth is, it can be a little hard to put those two into words sometimes. But she compared God to the sun. The sun is a powerful ball of fire, and without it the earth would cease to exists. We couldn't survive without the sun. We revolve around it, we depend on it, and we take it for granted. Even though we're millions of miles away from the sun, we can still see it. We can see the effects of the sun on nature and people. We know where the sun is, and every day it faithfully rises. But no one has ever been to the sun. It's impossible. We couldn't withstand the heat from the sun. In fact, we can't even look at the sun for longer than a few seconds or our eyes will be damaged. But we don't discount or discredit the sun. We know it exists, we know how powerful the sun is, and at the end of every day, we're glad it rose and set because that means we had another day of life.
But Jesus is like the sun rays. We can feel the sun rays. We step outside into the sunshine and immediately we can feel the warmth. We may not be able to see the rays as easily, but we certainly know they're they. Because if it weren't for the sun, the rays wouldn't exist. And isn't it interesting that although we notice the sun everyday, we notice the rays the most when they're piercing through the clouds? Their beauty is exemplified as they cut through the sky, and it's then that we're reminded of the sun. It's then that we stop and look up and we think, "How beautiful!" Because the rays lift our eyes towards the Heavens, the rays let us feel the power of the sun at an amount we can handle, and the rays give glory to where it really belongs. They rays can't exist without the sun, yet if it weren't for the rays, we'd never be able to feel the sun. We'd only see it, but we'd never know how enjoyable it truly is.
So although I am thankful for the cloudy days, as they are refreshing and an answered prayer, I am thankful for the sun. I am thankful that it rises every day to bless the world with light and with life. I am thankful that it is consistent, dependable, and trustworthy. I am thankful that we don't just see the sun but that we can feel it. And I am thankful that our God and our Savior, Jesus, work the same way. That every day, they breathe life into humanity. I am thankful that every day they watch over us, keeping their eyes on all that takes place. That they don't hide but make themselves known. That we can trust in their faithfulness and find assurance in their consistency. And that even though the storm clouds move in, they are ever present. Illuminating the sky, piercing through the clouds, and reminding us that we're not alone. We exists because they exist. Without them, we are nothing. We need them, and they know it, and I'm just grateful that they show up every day for us. Come rain or shine, our God is with us. Step outside, look to the Heavens, and you'll feel Him on your skin.
#969 - For the warmth of the sun, and the warmth from the Son.
"So keep on trying to know the Lord. His coming to us is as sure as the rising of the sun. He will come to us like the rain, like the spring rain giving water to the earth." - Hosea 6:3
