Reason #329

For the most part I am a rule follow. A girl who does things exactly by the book. But every once in a while, it's good to be spontaneous. Every once in a while, we deserve a break from the norm to just spoil ourselves. A day where we can rest, body and mind. Because we live busy lives and if it's not work keeping us busy, it's something else. There is always something else to do, something else we can occupy our time with.

And so today I allowed myself a day off. A day to rest, body and mind. To do the things I love. And I took it easy. Spent my time resting and rejuvenating. Basically, I just took a day off from stress. A day free of worry or concern. A day where I could simply just be. Enjoy the little things and make time for them. Scratch things off of my to-do list at a leisurely pace. And it was refreshing. Every moment of the day was just what I needed.

But didn't God come up with this idea of rest and rejuvenation? He knows what busy looks like. He's going a lot going on. But He took time to be. Time to enjoy rest. Not to feel guilty about it. Not to free His schedule so that He could fill it with more things to do. No, He took time to simply be. Be still and be refreshed. And I'm grateful that He gave us this example to follow. That He saw importance in a little time off and that He even instructed us to do the same.

It's easy to do a lot. It's easy to overcommit and burn out. It's easy to burn the midnight oil and it's hard to catch up sometimes. And so days like today are necessary. Days to just catch up. And maybe it's just to catch up on sleep, on a good book, on a movie that you've been meaning to watch for a while. Maybe it's just to catch up with friends or family or snuggle your pet. Whatever it is, make time for it. Because these moments are far and few in between. And when you make a little time for yourself, time to rest in the way you need to rest, you'll find that, really, it was more productive than anything else you could have done.

#329 - For opportunities to catch up on rest.

“This is what the Lord commanded: Tomorrow will be a day of complete rest, a holy Sabbath day set apart for the Lord. So bake or boil as much as you want today, and set aside what is left for tomorrow.” - Exodus 16:23
