Reason #870

It's about being thankful. About waking up in the morning and even though you're tired, you thank the Lord for a comfortable bed to sleep in at night. And sure, maybe your body aches a little bit, your eyes hurt, and every day you notice how your bones seem to pop more than they used to, but you thank the Lord that you're healthy. That you've been allowed another day of life. That your lungs have been filled with breath once again.

As you rush out of the house, you notice how messy it is. Your furniture is a dust magnet, and footprints show on your tile. You think about what all needs to be done, but you stop and you thank the Lord for a safe home to call your own.

The drive to work is short, but your tank is empty. You drive past each gas station making note of the price and hoping one will be significantly less than the other. They're all the same, all expensive, but you praise the Lord for that you have a working car and a job so that you can afford to keep it gassed up.

Work. You go there every day and some days you just want to be somewhere else. The day is beautiful, the sun in shining, and spending your time outside sounds ideal. Spending a day in a cubicle, again, not so much. But you remember that not everyone has a job. You remember what the economy is like, and so you praise God that He has been faithful to give you a job, a place to go every day, and you thank Him that He provides.

Your spilled your breakfast on your sweater...your white sweater. And, your pants have assumed a ridiculous amount of wrinkles during your ten minute commute. You're pretty sure that as you walk up to the glass door, the reflection you see was not quite the same one you saw before you left home. But you thank the Lord for clothes to wear each day. For a closet full of them. For the fact that you could probably go months without doing laundry and yet you'd still have something to wear without repeating an outfit twice. And shoes. Sure, the strap is glued on, but that's by choice. You could run out and get a new pair if you wanted to, and so you thank Him that everyday your feet are protected as you go about your business.

Dinner didn't taste as well as you thought, but praise the Lord you had food three different times today with some snacks in between. Your water bill, it's outrageous but you thank Him for the fact that you have immediate access to clean water at the turn of a handle. Maybe your newly planted flowers got beat up during the rain storm, thank Him for the much needed rain. Or maybe, on the hot days, the sun is zapping your energy, but thank Him that it still came up that morning and will set in a few hours leaving you with the coolness of night.

It's about being thankful. Choosing to be thankful that is. Keeping the mindset that even in the midst of chaos, frustration, disappointment, or monotony, you have something to be thankful for. Search for it. Praise Him for it. And even if you can't find it in that moment, be thankful that God is God. That He is good and merciful, kind and faithful. Be grateful that He has a plan, and that He isn't done with you. That He has more in store than you can fathom, and that it's good. Thank Him that He cares, that He hears, and that He has purpose in all things.

Thank you, Lord, for life... for my life.

#870 - For the life He has given me...because there is much to be thankful for.

"Be thankful in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you who belong to Christ Jesus." - 1 Thessalonians 5:18
