Reason #875

If the shoe fits. But sometimes it doesn't. She sat down and I tried the first pair of shoes on her feet. They were too big. I could tell she was a little upset but she was still hopeful that there would be one left over that was her size. The thing she didn't know was that there were only enough shoes for the people who signed up. There weren't any extras. No one told her, so she leaned against the wall trusting that we would take care of it.

There was an extra pair. They were pink, and I could tell she liked them. Her little eyes lit up as I began to place the new socks on her feet. I loosened the shoe strings so she could slide her foot in with ease. I placed her toes inside the shoe and started pushing it on her foot. It was tough, but the majority of her foot made it in the shoe. I felt relieved as it seemed that the shoe fit. I looked up and her eyes were as big as saucers. She motioned that they were too tight. I pushed down on the toe of the shoe and realize her little foot was crammed inside. They didn't fit, and as I handed the shoes back to the social worker, I could tell she was disappointed.

She tried not to let it show on her face. She sat there waiting, showing her faith in the bag of left over shoes. Luckily, for her, a few people had not shown up that day to receive their new shoes. The social worker compared sizes with the shoes that were left, and she found one that was just a little bigger than the shoe that was too small and a little smaller than the shoe that was too big. She handed them to me, and I hoped that the third time would be a charm. I didn't want this little girl to leave without a new pair of shoes, and I could tell the feeling was mutual.

I slid them on her feet with ease. They fit! Not only did they fit, the also lit up when she walked. A bonus feature she discovered upon taking her first steps. The joy radiated off of her face, and I was beyond grateful that, after a few failed attempts, she was able to leave with a new pair of shoes that were a perfect fit.

Sometimes, in life, the shoe doesn't fit, figuratively speaking. Sometimes, it's too large. We try to wear our thick socks in an attempt to keep it on, but it slides off. It trips us up. The shoe wasn't meant for our foot. It was designed to fit us. And there are times when the shoe is too tight. It is cutting off our circulation and squeezing the life out of our toes, and yet we try to endure the pain. We scruch our feet, loosen the straps as much as possible, pull and pull in an attempt to stretch them out, yet they still don't fit. No matter what we do, they won't. Our feet aren't getting any smaller, and the shoes aren't getting any bigger. And so we get to a point where we quit walking. It's too painful, too hard, and it hurts to much. And after many failed attempts, we're left feeling highly disappointed and discouraged.

But we have to wait. We have to wait on the Lord. We can't give up trying. We can't stop just because the first few times didn't work. They weren't the right fit, and that's why. It's not you. It's not about you. It's because they weren't made for you, intended for your feet. But there are some shoes that are. Shoes that will fit like a charm. Shoes that will support you. Shoes that will feel comfortable. Shoes that will keep you safe and open you up to a world of opportunities. Those shoes exist. They were made just for you. And so you have to wait. Have faith that He will find that perfect fit for you. After all, any woman knows shoe shopping takes patience, perseverance, and resilience.

Don't be afraid to try the shoes, but don't hang on to them if they don't fit. Be honest with yourself, and hand them back to Him. Let Him fit you with the right shoes. Wait on Him to find you that perfect pair. You may go through lots of shoes before you get there. You may have to pass up some that you really want. That's okay. Your shoes are on the way. They might look different than you expect, but trust me, they'll be better than you expected. You'll take that first step, and you'll see it. You'll be glad you waited, too, because there's nothing better than finding that shoe that is your perfect fit.

#875 - Because He will bring us our perfect fit.

For since the world began, no ear has heard and no eye has seen a God like you, who works for those who wait for him! - Isaiah 64:6
